Artist Spotlight-Chris Lantz Chainsaw Sculptor of Extreme Sculpting
It all started in 1989, one year before I was born. My dad and two uncles used to party and do drugs and they started going to church in Melbourne FL, where they met a man named Ted Traverse. Ted told them he felt he was being led by God to teach them to chainsaw carve. So he did and I watched for 19 years and then I left my house with a trash bag full of clothes, a $20 bill and a pack of cigarettes and moved to an abandoned flea market in Columbus GA. I slept there for a week and a half until finally I got my hands on a chainsaw and two weeks after that I carved a bear for $125. Since then I quit smoking cigarettes and gave my life to the Lord.
In the beginning, I was just trying to carve something that remotely resembled what I wanted, but after carving full time for 7 years, my greatest desire is to sculpt pieces with my love poured into them that will make people feel some kind of way. As of lately, custom on-site jobs have been a hot seller. Of all the styles or themes of sculptures I have done, nautical themed pieces have been some of my favorites.
